ANNOUNCEMENTS

This is a test web site designed only to be seen by KCHS Board members. It is based on the existing web site and uses the same content as the existing site with several major changes:
1. This site uses Responsive Web Design techniques. In plain English, this site will automatically resize itself when it's displayed on a PC/Mac, a table, or a smart phone. The content is the same but how it appears depends on the device you use. Currently only one page requires you to scroll horizontally when the site is viewed on a cell phone. (Try viewing this on different devices or use you PC/Mac and change the size of your browser window and see what happens.)
2. All of the Google Maps on the sites page now appear in a new window that appears on top of the site page. This app, called Fancy-box, makes it easier for the user to navigate the Google maps window and not leave our site
3. I've added 2 sample slide shows using the same Fancy-box app. One appears if you take the 'Your KCHS' menu choice and then select the 'Year In Review' choice. I've also added a KCHS copyright to these images. Look at the copyright symbol and tell me if you think its too big, too small, etc. The idea is to make it less likely that individuals will use our photos without permission. The other slideshow uses historic photos and appears in the Exploring Central section.
4. I've added an 'Exploring' section to the Central Site page. In this section I've added several documents I've had about Central as well as historic photos. You can see the Exploring material if you go to the Central site page. I would hope that those of you who manage other sites have materials I can put on the web to allow visitors a chance to read more about your site, see old photos, maps, etc. I'll figure out how to get the material on the web if you can get me the material. I think we could/should have an 'Exploring' section for each of our sites. Your 'Exploring' section would be of your own material and design, mine is just a sample.
One item I added to my exploring section was links to other wen sites that talk about Central or organizations such as the Keweenaw Kernewek that might be of interest to folks who are interested in Central. What web sites might be of interest to visitors who come to your site.
5. I've added more current photos and replaced many of the old photos. I can add additional photos if you give them to me. I did not put a copyright on every photo on the site but we do have a copyright statement on the first page.
6. The announcements section of each page is now a bit shorter but provides a link to this page for extended announcements.
7. Please check the calendar, schedules, etc. I've changed the format to allow it to resize on different devices. (OK, yes, I really do use my smart phone to surf the web.)
8. Oops, I just saw a typo that the computer made! OK, remember this is a test site to explore the flow and general feel, not the final site.
9. There are some pages (Presidential reports, internal forms) that are basically blank pages/stubs to indicate where they'd fit in the design.
10. As the KCHS site gets larger it's a bit more difficult to see where you've been, what links you've taken so I set all of the links that the visitor has already used to red and the un-taken ones to blue.
11. The web site is designed to make changes, within reason. Based on your feedback I can alter colors, sizes, etc.
12. After I've received your feedback I'll begin to update the site for the 2014 dates, etc. I will not publish it to the general public until we get close to the opening of our season, perhaps early May. In fact my plan is to have a Facebook page all set and launch both the site and page near the same time and use one to promote the other.
